Accessible fares for buses, trains and ferries

An AT Total Mobility card comes pre-loaded with the AT HOP Accessible concession on it. This gives you 40% off travel on buses, trains and ferries.

See the current Accessible bus, train and ferry fares.

The Accessible concession is also available when paying with cash. You’ll need to show your Total Mobility card when buying your ticket to prove that you qualify.

When paying by contactless (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay), you’ll pay the full adult fare.

How to use your card to travel on public transport

We recommend registering your Total Mobility AT HOP card on MyAT to manage your account online. This allows you to top up online, check your balance, and cancel your card if it gets lost.

You’ll need to top up your card before using it on public transport, just like any other AT HOP card.

Tag on at the electronic gate or HOP reader on your bus, train or ferry, and tag off again when you exit.

If you have an older Total Mobility card you’ll need a separate AT HOP card for public transport. This also applies to Total Mobility cards from elsewhere in New Zealand. You can order a free blue AT HOP card loaded with the Accessible concession online.

Find out more about getting a blue HOP card with an Accessible concession.

PlusOne bus companion

Your Total Mobility card also gives you the PlusOne bus companion – a free ticket for your carer or companion. Tell the driver when you board that you're using PlusOne.

On other services, carers and companions must pay the full adult price for their own ticket, unless they have a valid concession themselves.

PlusOne for trains and ferries is coming soon. Sign up for our Total Mobility newsletter to be notified when it’s available.

Important things to know

Who is eligible

Auckland residents who cannot complete at least one part of a journey on their own are eligible for a Total Mobility card.

Learn more about the Total Mobility scheme.

What happens if your card gets lost

Your concession is attached to the card, not your account. This means if you lose your card and need a replacement, you need to reload the concession onto the new card.

Get in touch with our contact centre and we'll arrange for a replacement card, free of charge. You can transfer any remaining balance from the old card onto the new.

You’ll receive your replacement card within 2 weeks of placing your request. Please note you’ll be charged full-price fares until your card is replaced.

If you’re eligible for multiple concessions

You can only have one concession per card. If you’re eligible for another concession, for example SuperGold, this can be loaded onto a second AT HOP card to use at different times.

Where accessible discount fares apply

Accessible discounts are available on Auckland Transport bus, train and ferry services, and AT Local.

The discount does not apply on Waiheke Island or Rakino Island ferry services.
